We’re happy to say that our brilliant holiday compilation Festivus is out now around the globe!
Featuring a host of luminaries from the Highline roster and our friends including Piney Gir, Glam Chops (Art Brut’s Eddie Argos), Still Flyin’, Correatown, Alphabet Backwards, Monnone Alone (Mark Monnone of the Lucksmiths) and The Real Tuesday Weld, Festivus is sure to keep you cosy this Christmas season.
Kicking off with LA-based chanteuse Correatown’s gentle, woozily joyous ‘Christmas Time Is Here’, the album segues into an accordion-laced romp courtesy of the fantastically-monikered Skiffle and the Piffles before settling on the ever-brilliant Piney Gir’s ‘Every Day’s A Holiday’, containing surely the finest Christmas riff since Slade gave Crimbo a firm glam boot up the derriere way back when.
Speaking of glam, Art Brut’s rakish lynchpin Eddie Argos also makes an appearance on Festivus, as part of the stomping Glam Chops, whose mischievous offering conjures up images of a half-naked Santa dancing on his Lapland HQ desk, clutching a bottle of Harvey’s Bristol Cream and singing raucously to The Sweet and Alphabet Backwards cosy up the mood with their bubbling track “Dearest Santa”.
Jangling sleigh bells herald The Real Tuesday Weld’s languid, jazzy ‘Song Of December’, and frost-laced windows and 80s guitars conjure up retro Christmas memories in Still Flyin‘s “St.Veit”. Mark Monnone and Gary Olson (of the Ladybug Transistor) head back to young Marky’s Australian childhood, wondering how Santa can be “Everywhere at Once”.
From glam rock to indie pop, Festivus is jam-packed with future holiday favorites. Why not leave a copy out for Santa with his milk and cookies, stuff the stockings with copies or give one to yourself, for you’ve been very good this year!
